Kazakhstan Railways may build a terminal in the Georgian port of Anaklia

The Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Georgia, Olzhas Bektenov and Irakli Kobakhidze, visited the office of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. During the visit, the heads of government were shown digital solutions in the railway industry, including the Single Digital Window and the smart rail transport system.

Describing the prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and Georgia, the press service of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy reported that KTZ is “considering the possibility of expanding its terminal capacities in the port of Anaklia (Georgia)”.

As reported to the editorial office of LogiStan in Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the mentioned “expansion of terminal capacities” implies the possibility of building a terminal in the port of Anaklia.

KTZ emphasizes that the idea of ​​​​building a terminal in the Georgian port of Anaklia is associated with the growth of cargo traffic along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

“In 2024, the route reached record levels, demonstrating a 28-fold increase compared to 2023. According to PwC forecasts, by 2030, the volume of container transportation along the TITR may reach 287 thousand TEU, (8 times higher than the results of 2024).”
